Kids Are More Overstimulated Than Ever: This Educator Says the Solution Is Just 5 Minutes a Day

The TikTok Generation is growing up faster than any era before them. But with that, their attention spans are shrinking, anxiety is rising, and kids are overstimulated from morning to night. As a result, we’re seeing rising tantrums, behavioral dysregulation, and emotional overwhelm, not because they lack discipline, but because they lack the proper tools to help them emotionally regulate.

Mindfulness educator Veronica Moya, founder of the nonprofit Mindful V, is redefining emotional intelligence for the TikTok Generation with her 5-minute “mental hygiene” method that teaches children how to self-regulate in a world of constant stimulation.

According to Veronica, what children need is consistent, intentional care for the mind. Just five minutes a day of mindfulness, breathwork, or self-awareness can create a foundation for resilience that lasts a lifetime. She calls it a “mental hygiene movement,” a daily reset for kids that’s as essential as brushing your teeth or washing your hands. Her mission is simple but transformative; start early, start small, and stay consistent.

Her simple, age-appropriate practices (already used at the Norton Museum of Art, Quantum House, and public library programs) help kids:

  • Calm their nervous systems
  • Identify emotions
  • Build resilience
  • Reduce impulsive behaviors
  • Increase focus
  • Sleep better
