According to a November 2025 report on the best cities for Gen Z, Pittsburgh offers the most opportunities to young adults in America. The study by digital entertainment platform JB compared cities across the country to find where young people can afford basic expenses while still having an active social life.

- Pittsburgh is the best city in America for young adults, with rents below $1,000 and nearly 350 restaurants and coffee shops in every neighborhood.
- Baltimore offers recent graduates the best shot at finding both a job and a date, with thousands of entry-level positions and 70% of the population being single.
- The worst city to live in as a Gen Z is Las Vegas, with high crime rates and the lowest disposable income at under $500.
The research examined 30 major urban areas to see where young people can actually enjoy city life. Cities were compared based on housing costs, monthly salaries, and whether young people can find jobs easily. The study also looked at dating prospects by checking how many residents are single. Beyond that, the research considered entertainment factors like restaurant and bar availability, and practical aspects like walkability, safety, and commute times.

The dating scene in the city stays active too, as two-thirds of residents are single.
2. Boston, MA
Boston comes second, offering one of the best salaries at $6,100. Although young people will find local rents expensive, the high wages make up for it. To help with savings, residents can skip owning a car, since the city is easily walkable (83/100 score). Boston is also a good fit for those looking for dates, as nearly 70% of residents here don’t have partners. Meeting single people in the city is quite easy, as the city has more than 40 bars in every urban area.
3. Washington, DC
Washington follows next with monthly salaries of $6,112, tying Boston for the biggest paycheck on the list. Finding a job here isn’t hard, as local businesses post more than 1,500 entry-level openings per 10K people. Beyond work, young people here can enjoy social life, with almost 450 restaurants and cafes found across every district.
4. Milwaukee, WI
Milwaukee takes fourth place with the youngest crowd of any major city, where most residents are in their early 30s and single. Landing a job here is simpler than anywhere else since only 3.7% of people are unemployed. Another advantage is the commute that lasts only around 20 minutes, and residents spend less time stuck in traffic and have more free time after work.
5. Atlanta, GA
Atlanta rounds out the top five cities for young adults. Residents here bring home close to $5,000 each month, while paying more affordable rents at $1,500. The job market stays strong as well, with low unemployment (4%) making finding work easier, even for an early-career professional. Like Boston and Milwaukee, there are plenty of opportunities to meet someone in Atlanta, too, as almost 68% of locals are single.
The CEO of JB commented on the study:
“About 6 out of 10 young adults want to leave their current city, and buying a house isn’t even on their radar anymore. Young people today aren’t thinking about mortgages or settling down because those things feel out of reach. Instead, they’re focused on finding places where their paycheck covers rent and still leaves enough for going out and building a social life.”
