UMI Salon and KEEN New York to Host Free Back-to-School Haircut Day for Athletes with Disabilities

WHO: UMI Salon and nonprofit KEEN New York are partnering to host a free back-to-school haircut and school supply day for KEEN athletes with disabilities.

WHAT: A free back-to-school haircut and school supply event, offered through scheduled appointments to create a calm, organized experience. Each athlete will receive a complimentary haircut and a package of back-to-school materials such as notebooks, folders, and writing supplies. UMI stylists will complete a disability inclusion and communication orientation ahead of the event, and participation is fully athlete-led — athletes may pause, modify, or end their haircut at any time.

WHEN: Sunday, August 16, 2026, 10 AM – 3 PM

WHERE: UMI Salon, 37 West 20th Street, Suite 1107, New York, NY 10011

COST: Free to families involved with KEEN

WHY: The event helps KEEN families reduce back-to-school expenses while giving athletes with disabilities the opportunity to feel celebrated, confident, and prepared for the school year. Beyond the practical resources, the experience is designed to support self-expression, independence, and a positive, affirming salon visit — often a first for many participating athletes.

VISUALS: Athletes receiving haircuts and selecting school supplies; stylist-athlete interactions; KEEN Coaches supporting families; athletes showing off new haircuts and supply packages.
